Revealed: Man Making Thousands Via Fake Comments on Top Blogs

Hands on Keyboard
A provider of shady Pinterest marketing services is currently making thousands of dollars by spamming top blogs with fake comments promoting his offering.

If you’ve read articles about Pinterest marketing lately, you might have come across one of his comments already.

They go a bit like this (a comment from a recent article from Econsultancy):

My experience with pinterest:

I’ve used pinterest to optimize my site’s ranking and it jumped from page 9 to #5 within 2 weeks.

I found that the seller named “pinterest”, which ranked first when you search “pinterest” at Fiverr, has produced the best results on my websites. The seller pins my site with 75 different people, not sure how he did this, but it has improve my SERP’s ranking. I’ve tried 5 other sellers who offer pinterest gigs on Fiverr but they can’t improve my site’s ranking. I don’t know why.

Some known advantages of pinterest for seo:
- Google loves social media signal.
- Each pin is considered as 3 inbound links.
- Links and images from pinterest are dofollow!

That comment is from a user calling themselves “Navita” on 25th June 2012.

Here’s another comment (now deleted) from our own blog, this time from a user calling themselves Tom Moten, on 16th June 2012. Note the similar pattern:

I have used pinterest on my website and the result was great, it jumped from page 8 to #3 in just 3 weeks time.

The key is we must got our website pinned and repinned by many people, which is the hardest part. Most of pinterest users won’t doing repin when they aren’t like what we pinned.

I do simple thing to outsource it on fiverr and got my site pinned by 75 people, I don’t know how can he did it just search by typing pinterest on fiverr and you will find it on the TOP. Many other seller offer pinterest service on fiverr but in my experience they can’t make my website increase in SEO. I don’t know why.

Three Reasons why pinterest is good for SEO:
1. Once our website pinned it has backlinks counts.
2. You need to ping the links of your pins to the to get your website increase in SEO.
3. Even though Pinterest does not support anchor text (except the url link), it’s still perfect for placing our keywords in description.

And here’s a third one from a Mashable article on 3rd June by someone apparently called Norb Winslow(!):

Nice post! By the way, I have used pinterest on my site and the result was awesome, my site jumped from page 8 to #3 at first page in around 3 weeks time.

Call me a cynic, but these look pretty suspicious to me.

Fiverr is a marketplace where you can hire people to do small tasks for $5. The seller (username “pinterest”) being promoted in all these blog comments currently has 1061 reviews. That means he’s made, at the very least, thousands of dollars of sales so far. And with 113 orders in his queue, that looks set to continue for some time.

If you’re wondering what service he’s offering for $5, that’s shady too: he offers to use 75 different Pinterest accounts to promote your website.

  1. I used some seo fiver gigs for one of my websites about 6 months back… Lost a TON of traffic. These people are not pro’s, they have just simplified the basics into a time efficient job for them, that results in “I did it, now pay me”.
